Early treatment (age 7+)

Seven sounds young — and for most kids, the first visit ends with a clean bill of health and a plan to simply keep watching. For the minority who benefit from acting while the jaw is still growing, timing matters. Either way, you'll get a straight answer.

What our patients are saying about this
★★★★★

My Daughter has been going to Santa Monica Orthodontics for about a year and a half. They have done a great job creating space for incoming teeth followed with braces for a great smile.

Every member of the staff from the Orthodontist, support technician, and the great front staff make the process easy as possible and my Daughter couldn’t be happier.

I highly suggest anyone considering orthodontic work to stop by and schedule an initial consultation so you can hear from them yourself

★★★★★

I have been going to Santa Monica Orthodontics since I was in elementary school and when my teeth were crooked and had gigantic gaps. To say that Dr. Khan and Roger fixed my teeth would be an understatement and I am truly grateful that they were able to help me out as efficiently, kindly, and effectively as they could throughout all these years. Thank you!

Age seven

A first visit, and usually nothing else.

Most early checks end with a look and a date to come back.

Why age seven

Around seven, enough permanent teeth have erupted and enough jaw growth has happened for an orthodontist to see how things are developing — while there is still growth left to work with.

Most children who are seen at seven need nothing yet. The value of the visit is knowing that, knowing what to watch for, and knowing someone is monitoring your child's dental development with you.

What early treatment involves, when it's needed

When early treatment is warranted, it is usually limited and targeted: guiding growth or creating room, rather than straightening every tooth.

Dr. Khan will explain what phase one is meant to accomplish, what it does not accomplish, and that a second phase is typically expected later — so nobody is surprised by that conversation years from now.

What if we just wait

A fair question — and one of the ones answered honestly on Ask Dr. Khan. She will go through the pros and cons of waiting in your specific case.
